Why Some People Should Never Talk

I'd almost be amused by all the stories I've been reading about how Hurricane Katrina is affecting the entertainment world. Almost. You know, if it wasn't for all the death and destruction I might think it's kind of funny how self-absorbed these showbiz types can be.

The following has to be the stupidest, most insensitive quote I've come across so far. I was reading some articles on Comcast, and one dealt with several movies being shut down or postponed that were being filmed in Louisiana. Now, I understand that the film industry can really boost a city's economy. Of course any city would love to attract movie crews to create local jobs, tourism and just general interest. However, if Hollywood leaves town, it's not the end of the world. You would think the fact that there are still people trapped in New Orleans with nowhere to go and that the city has practically turned into a lawless wasteland (no thanks to our federal government) would be foremost on the minds of state authorities. Well, I guess it's not weighing too heavily on Michael Olivier's mind. Olivier, the current Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development and long-time simpleton, gave Daily Variety this message for film crews: "They need to come to Louisiana. Louisiana's open for business. Unless you're shooting a film called "Hurricane", you won't want to come to New Orleans, but we have 54 other parishes."

I have kind of a potty mouth in real life, but I try to keep my blog reasonably clean. No can do in this case. I believe a resounding "what the fuck" is in order. So, here goes. Say it with me if you like. WHAT THE FUCK??? Hey, idiot, you might want to think about helping to clean up the parts of your state that were destroyed before you go sticking your nose up the film industry's ass. And while you're doing that, keep your fool mouth shut.

One of the films that is being held up is a new Kevin Costner flick, The Guardian, which is summarized on IMDB like this:
"In an effort to find his place in life, a troubled young man enlists in the Coast Guard, where he's taken in by a renown rescue swimmer who's hardened by the loss of his team from an accident years back." Also starring Ashton Kutcher. Ok, now I understand why it's so important to get the movie cameras rolling again! What a shame it would be if this dynamic duo's cliche-fest never hit the big screen. Such a tragedy.

and who the FUCK cares about Hollywood right now anyway? Where are his priorities? Babies are still starving in that GD convention center hell hole and who right now gives two shits about what the entertainment industry has to say unless they are writing checks to red cross??
I have ranted about this all week, but the division between the haves and have-nots could not be more glaringly obvious after this week.

I can't help but wonder if the appropriate level of aid has not been forthcoming (thanks to a cracker-ass redneck in charge at the White House) because most of the people in need of help are black or other non-white folks. Statements like the one you referenced make me think that the rednecks in the south have already moved on and just thought of it as ethnic cleansing. It makes me sick.

And I've heard a lot of criticism about the looting and how people don't want to help because of the violence that has erupted. Additionally, people have said that if these folks didn't leave, then they deserve what they got. What the hell is wrong with people?! How can you criticize and scoff at this much devastation? What do the looters have to lose? What do you do when you have absolutely nothing?

Sorry to ramble, but it totally infuriates me.

Who Does This Broad Think She Is?

My photo
I am a winsome muse who was sent to Earth to inspire an artist to turn a vacant building into the world's coolest disco roller rink. We fell in love along the way, and I foolishly gave up my immortality. When the disco craze ended and all the roller rinks were shut down, that lazy bum wouldn't get a job. We broke up and I was stuck on Earth with nothing to do and no one to inspire. So, now I write a blog.
