Forgotten Classic Video of the Week

Since I'm going to the ABBA disco party tomorrow night with Coaster Punchman, Poor George and, tentatively, Chelene, I've decided to make it easy on myself and just use an ABBA video as this week's forgotten gem.

Since all of their videos pretty much look the same, and all of their songs pretty much sound the same, my choice was based on whatever song popped into my head first. And the winner is, "Waterloo!"

Wow. So much to mock here...where does one even start? Obviously, everyone's clothes were plum awful, but take special notice of the duds on troll-boy, Bjorn. He must have raided Ace Frehley's closet the day of the shoot. Looks like he made his guitar in wood shop, too.

What's funniest about this video, to me, is that I can just imagine the director thinking that he was making a "concept video" simply by throwing a Napoleon bust on set.

The vid doesn't seem to be there, so I sang Waterloo instead. Loudly and proudly.

Have fun at the ABBA party. Jealous I am!

Whattya mean it's not there? I'm looking at it right now! (Er, not RIGHT now, but just 2 seconds ago.)
Okay I finished hallucinating and it's there now. I'm still glad I sang, though.

ABBA is a semi-guilty pleasure of mine. Thanks for posting the vid. I don't know if you have seen it, but on the sketch comedy show "French and Saunders" they did an ABBA parody. Here is the link:

Have fun at the ABBA party. Are you dressing up in 70s garb for the event?

Lord, can you say "stiff shoulders"? I need to show those girls how to boogie.

But I'm sitting in my coffee shop, having brekkie and singing "Waterloo." Rather loudly. Yeah, everyone moved away from my table.

I gotta have that blue hat and boots. Beth's right, WTH is with the lack of dance moves, I mean after all it was the 70's! I'll be thinking about you guys at the ABBA party whilst sitting on my new couch and sleeping in my new pillow top bed...HAVE FUN
That lip synching is hilarious! I like how troll boy starts in at the end to a lyric he clearly has no part of.

Troll boy's outfit: KISS meets Hello Kitty.

And I gotta echo bluez on that blue cap. Love it!

Oh I remember it well.

haaaaaaahahahahaha wow that is a seriously terrible video. they couldn't think of ANYTHING better to do than stand against a blank backdrop and mouth words? poorly? i love it. :-)
For whatever reason or number of reasons (being straight, having parents who never liked music, a fierce ban on all things foreign), I never heard a single ABBA song until some high school girlfriend put them on a mix tape, filed under "irony." The irony was on her: I never listened to the tape, because we broke up shortly thereafter.

I actually used to listen to them! My God, the horror, the horror...

And, that is the smallest piano I have ever seen, what's the deal there?

Love the French & Saunders everything Malcolm. And don't forget the Waterloo from Muriel's Wedding with Rachel Griffiths & Toni Collette! The video's crappy but here you go.
You KNOW you want a blue sparkly hat like the one blonde ABBA is wearing.

An ABBA disco party?!

This is why I need to move to New York.

The guy on guitar appears to be slightly "slow"--and I'm not talking about the speed at which he's playing guitar.

Yes, I'm being mean. :)

I hope you have a great time at the ABBA party.
I can't even tell which is Troll Boy. It must hurt to be one of the ABBA boys - they are both so damn ugly. I don't object to the clothing as much as the hair. But the star-shaped guitar is sure nifty!

Thanks for going last night; sorry I was so sloshed at the end! (Oops, recap to appear on CPW later...)
eh, I love ABBA. ABBA party? I'm jealous.

but what about the out-of-sync lip-syncing in the video?

There's so much to love there--the 70's culottes, for instance.

I think I'll play lots of ABBA this week while I'm home relaxing and cleaning. yes.

Did you notice that the guitar player is wearing blue eyeshadow?

I own an ABBA greatist hits cd but this is not one of my faves.
