Forgotten Classic Video of the Week

I was watching VH1's one-hit wonder special again recently, and as I always do when faced with Martika's "Toy Soldiers" (which I can't stand), I thought out loud: I know that she had another hit out before that song. One that I actually liked. What the hell was that?

For some reason, even though I always ask myself this question, I forget all about it about five minutes later and never bother looking it up. Strange, because stuff like that will usually eat away at me until I have the answer. I guess Martika's discography just isn't that important to me.

But since I was drawing a blank for this week's vid, I finally checked into that mystery Martika tune. The song is called "More Than You Know," and I immediately remembered more of it than I thought I knew. Maybe you guys will too. Enjoy.

Oh, great. Guess what's going to be stuck in my head for the next 2 weeks?

Step by step, heart to heart...

Blech. It's right up there with Feliz Navidad.

Whatever the quality of the song -- which at best is probably "decent" -- Martika is so hot that not even shoulder pads and a bevy of fashion mistakes can prevent her hotness from making that video watchable.

Video may have killed Dan Fogelberg, but it sure as heck is a great place for Martika.
It won't let me play the video, but I can practically sing the whole thing in my head. Now I have to go look through my old 45s. That IS a good one!

I had no idea she had a second hit. I do like Toy Soldiers, even though I don't have a clue what it means.

Nice...
I hated that Eminem used a loop of her Toy Soilders in his awful song..can't remember the title at this second..but you know what I'm talking about right??
Guilty confession time: I'm actually a fan of Martika. Like, still. I have her greatest hits on my iPod. Toy Soldiers was her best song, but there were many more (in England, anyway) and her unique brand of 80s pop is definitely a guilty pleasure for me.

Check out the Prince-penned 'Love, thy Will be Done' and the utterly ridiculous 'Martika's Kitchen'. They're absolute classics.
I don't like this song any better than "Toy Soldiers", but Martika is so hot that she made me forget about Debbie Gibson for a couple of months.

Martika is looking so tasty in this video, I'm almost willing to forgive the cookie cutter blandness of this song.

I'd love to know what criteria VH-1 is using for their one-hit wonder specials. If Martika is watching these specials, I can hear her saying, "I know my career wasn't all that VH-1, but I did have 4 hits!"
