Becks and The City

To all my loyal readers....I have just landed a job with a wonderful little PR firm in Manhattan, so I will be moving to the Big Apple very shortly. I'm not sure how much time I will have to blog, but I will certainly try my best to update with some frequency.

In honor of the new job and in lieu of "What's in BeckEye's Ear", here is a list of my favorite NYC-related songs (in no particular order):

New York, New York - Ryan Adams
New York City - They Might Be Giants
No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn - Beastie Boys
You Said Something - PJ Harvey
Leaving New York - REM
New York State of Mind - Billy Joel
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters - Elton John
I Love NYC - Andrew WK
Nights on Broadway - Bee Gees
New York Groove - Ace Frehley
The Williamsburg Strangler - Vic Thrill + The Saturn Missile
City of Love - Knockout Drops
Midnight in Chelsea - Jon Bon Jovi
Coney Island Girls - Fun Lovin' Criminals
A Fairytale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl
Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan
Rockaway Beach - The Ramones
Sixth Avenue Heartache - The Wallflowers
New York, New York - Leonard Bernstein
Jungleland - Bruce Springsteen....now this may actually be about Jersey. But, he mentions the NY Rangers and Harlem, so it fits. Besides, this is one of my favorite songs ever.

I was never a big fan of the Frank Sinatra "New York, New York". I guess it's just played out. Still, if I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere.

Wow! Congratulations! That is so exciting! I am really happy for you. The selfish part of me though, must say that I hope you are still blogging around.

Congrats on the new job!!!

I'll be in NY in 2 weeks for the first time ever and I can't wait.

What will you be doing for them?

Beck ~ Just looking at that picture you put up makes me excited for you. I love that song Jungleland too. Bruce was one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

JC - Thanks! It's exciting and scary at the same time. But I gotta go for it. It's an amazing opportunity.

Justin - That it does.

Neo - Thank you. Maybe someday I will be....The...Apprentice.

Heather - Thanks. NY is a great place, you'll love it. Don't believe the hype about people being rude. New Yorkers are some of the coolest people I've ever met. My job in an entry level PR deal, so I'll be helping out with making calls to the media, etc and then once I learn all the tricks of the trade I can try to sign up new biz. That's where the big $$ is.

Lee ann - Yep, exciting! Of course, i don't have any weird romanticized view of NYC. I don't even have a permanent place to live yet!

Bonanza - I just hope I don't turn out like Samantha. No, worse...like Charlotte. Ha ha. But I'm looking forward to the smorgasboard of men. As my best friend said, "you could pick up a man going to get a slushee".

Zombie - Thanks!

Teri - Yes, the music scene is definitely a big draw. Actually, the person most responsible for getting me this opportunity is a friend of mine who's in a band.

Melanie - Well, I'll always be a Steel Town girl at heart. And I'll always be a Stillers fan!

Kate - Ohhhh noooooo....that is one of my least favorite U2 songs. Yuck! Heh heh, sorry. I'd rather listen to Angel of Harlem, and I'm not even super keen on that one. Dig the horns though.
WOW, that's totally cool! Congratulations and I wish you all the best at your new job! When you said you quit your old job, I knew bigger things were in store for you. Yay, Beck!

Wow! Congratulations. I've always wanted to live in NYC for just a year or so. I never got the opportunity though and it looks like I never will. I am envious. Good luck! But don't you DARE quit blogging!

You left out my personal theme song "leaving New York," Michael Stipe and REM

"Leaving NY's never easy...."

But it will always be the worlds greatest city; it just happens to my home town so that clouds it a bit

oh you had it, didn't see it. sorry, and I hope it lives up to all your expectations

CONGRATS!

Congrats on the move! Don't forget the Cult's "New York City." Almost sums up my feelings about the city before Giuliani Disney-fied the place.

You need U2 and "City Of Blinding Lights" by U2 is your song.

I wouldn't say "New York" is that bad.

Queen's version of "New York, New York " from the film Highlander is still my favorite version. Maybe because it is gritty and abrasive as it slowly becomes melodic and structured... kinda like the city. Congrats on the change. Hope to hear a bit of PR advice here and there from you in the future. B)
