Forgotten Classic Video of the Week

In honor of last night's Glenn Tilbrook concert (read the post below for my thoughts on the show), the featured video this week will be a favorite of mine, "Another Nail For My Heart," by Squeeze. It's also one of the few popular Squeeze tunes that wasn't on last night's set list.

The sound on this clip seems a bit muffled, but just turn your speakers up. They should already be up to eleven anyway.

By the way, does anyone know why this song titled differently every time I see it? Half the time it's listed as "...for my heart" and the other half I see it as "...in my heart." He's clearly singing "for." But the title could always be different. I guess this would've been the perfect question to ask Glenn! I have to remember that for next time.

You have to have something wrong with you if you didn't love Squeeze. The songwriting team of Difford/Tilbrook are hard to beat. Sometime, I'll have to make my favorite song of theirs a Classically Martin moment.

Re: for my heart and in my heart. That's an excellent question.

David Bailey has the original singles that say "in," but at the Squeezefan site, they list the song (and the lyrics) as "for."

I'll consult Squeeze: Song by Song.

I had completely forgotten about this video. Thanks for reminding me!

If I ever do an interview with Glenn, I'll make sure to ask him but I believe he uses "for" the whole way through. There are a few reasons for that. Singing the phrase as quickly done in the song can drop the emphasis of the R in "for" to sound more like "fa". Singing the alternate phrase in the same meter would come across as "nailin" which hits the M in "my" off. But then that is just me.
