Idol Results: 4/4/07

Smart guy, that Tony Bennett. He suddenly developed "the flu" and couldn't make it to the AI results show. He must have had a premonition that the train was going to derail.

Although I had two of the bottom three correct (Haley and Phil), I was surprised to see Gina on the chopping block...and even more surprised when she got the boot. Now Gina fans will either stop watching or start voting for Sunjaya just to spite the show's producers.

However, after watching Bennett's replacement, Michael Buble, perform, I'm starting to think that there really is no vast conspiracy on anyone's part to keep Sunjaya in the competition - other than his actual fans. I knew who Buble was before last night but, thankfully, had never heard him sing. Now I know what a blessing that has been all this time. First of all, he looks like the chubby, dorky, mentally unbalanced cousin that Matt Dillon never talks about. Second, he's no fan of enunciation. Or singing well. Yet, this doofus sells gazillions of records. So, now I understand Sunjaya's popularity. America loves crap. It's just that simple.

You know what's going to happen...? Sunjaya will win, and they will yank AI right off the air. It's all a great big fix. Poor Sunjaya will get chased into the parking lot and set on fire (I almost said "stoned in the parking lot", but didn't want to be misunderstood".). Damn. Now I wanna get stoned in the parking lot. Bet that's where Tony was.

The Buble was awful wasn't he? The enunciation thing made him sound drunk. He is overrated but at times enjoyable if you don't have to look at him. I actually went to see him when he was starting out and he was already smarmy beyond right.

I fast-forwarded straght through the Buble. I heard two notes and made the executive decision to never hear the thrid.

By the way: I was moved to tears by Gina's booting. It's not that I was a fan (I'm not, really) but she was sooooo bummed out. And then to have to sing that stupid song about smiling even though your teeth were just kicked in was a horrible ironic twist for her.

My niece said his name like Michael Booble on accident. Classic.

Gina stinks. She has no appeal. I'd rather vote for Haley's sexy legs.

Hey! I actually saw this episode! Errr... the one where they sang, not the results.

Here's what confused me: Given that they always rip on people for singing like they're doing karaoke or cabaret, why did they have an episode where they had to sing songs that you are only likely to hear in a cabaret or karaoke bar?

I really don't get their themes.

Unless they are secretly running Old Folks Home Idol, this theme was sort of the opposite of what they are shooting for. They should have kicked out the people with the most votes.

They should pick themes that are relevant to the contest the singers are trying to win. Instead of Motown (please... when was the last Motown song recorded?) or Easy Listening, make them all sing *shudder* Fall Out Boy. That's something their eventual target audience can relate to. They could at least do something like Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Ouch!! :)

I can't help it, I love singers like Michael Buble, Matt Dusk and Harry Connick Jr. I thought Michael did great...

Les - You know that's Paula's pre-show warmup.

Dale - I actually would've preferred to a repeat of Sunjaya's performance. In a different suit, of course.

Flannery - I definitely caught the irony. I was going to mention it. I actually had a much longer post planned, but just said the hell with it. I'm not going to bother looking for deep meaning in this show. I wish I could've FF'd through Bublah. Alas, I was watching live.

Alecia - He is a giant boob, so it's fitting.

TD - You're a proud American.

Deadspot - Well, Simon seems to prefer old music. But he's the first to bitch about people being "unhip" or acting too old. It's in his contract that he must contradict himself at least 5 times during each show.

Lora - I told you not to read this post! :)

I do like Harry Connick, Jr...big ears and all. I wish they could've gotten him to perform instead.

I've seen Buble on Target commercials and accidentally on the Today Show. He fills a niche for the "tired of playing Natalie Cole does standards and Harry Connick does standards" set.

Sunjaya? He's got the whole tone-deaf preteens and crack-addled roosters-set all to himself.

Must...get...back...to...Becka...c'mon, plane! Just...hold...on...a...little...longer!...

At least you can blame Canada for Michael Buble. Thank you for reminding me why I don't watch this show. I owe you.

I had such little interest in the mess this year and now I am laughing at the a--hole producers getting their just desserts for putting Sanjaya through.

WP - Give me a minute, man! John's one of today's "boogers."

Barbara - I blame Buble for being such a Booble.

Turnbaby - Yeah, it's annoying but funny at the same time. I watched the auditions and Sunjaya ALWAYS sucked. They cut other guys who were clearly better than him, for whatever twisted reasons, and now they're paying for it. And people keep saying that Sunjaya is making AI even more popular, but I just read today that every week he stays on, the ratings continue to decline.

Ooooooooh. I didn't say anything about Mr Buble, but I thought the same thing about his singing. It was not good.

And yet, as you say, he sells millions of records. Go figure.

Who Does This Broad Think She Is?

My photo
I am a winsome muse who was sent to Earth to inspire an artist to turn a vacant building into the world's coolest disco roller rink. We fell in love along the way, and I foolishly gave up my immortality. When the disco craze ended and all the roller rinks were shut down, that lazy bum wouldn't get a job. We broke up and I was stuck on Earth with nothing to do and no one to inspire. So, now I write a blog.
