Forgotten Classic Video of the Week

For this week's video, I needed to look no further than VH-1 Classic for inspiration. A couple of days ago I turned on my favorite channel and this was the first vid I saw - L.A. Guns' "I Wanna Be Your Man," from 1989's Cocked and Loaded.

I was never a huge L.A. Guns fan, although "Ballad of Jayne" remains one of my favorite power ballads of all-time. I couldn't really remember any other songs of theirs that I truly liked until I saw this video again. I'm reminded that it was played on MTV quite a bit and that I really dug it. I always had kind of a crush on lead singer Phil Lewis, too. What was it about androgynous, painfully skinny, leather-clad, long-haired sleazebags that was so appealing to me in those days? Who knows. Looking at this video again, I'm starting to think he actually looks like a brunette, glam-rock version of Jodie Foster.

By the way...since I wasn't able to include a forgotten classic last week, stay tuned for lots of vids this week. (Not all forgotten or classics.)

Naw, naw, the first album is where it's at. "No Mercy," "Sex Action," "Shoot For Thrills"...wait a minute. With no more mousse or gel in my hair, all those songs sound the same now.

Okay, okay, "Electric Gypsy" still kicks major ass, yeah! Glam at its finest, yeah!

I always wondered what it would've been like if Tracii stayed in Guns N' Roses? I mean Slash defines the G-N-R sound.

More vids? When are you gonna post "home" vids? Some of us would like to see the famous NYC Subway Rats...

Or you could blog all the street musicians. Get busy - your public awaits. Well, the Canuckian Social Misfit awaits - not exactly "public", but a fan, nonetheless.

I don't think he's butch enough to look like Jodie Foster.

I don't think about L.A. Guns as much as Guns and Roses. I'd forgotten not only about this video, but about this song.

You are doing a tremendous service.

Well, now there are two versions of LA Guns touring around. One with Tracii Guns, his son and some guys that were in the band before the first album. The other version has Phil Lewis, drummer Steven Riley and a couple of fill in guys. Back in late 2004 Phil Lewis said he thought that the band had had about 32 different members. That number might be close to 40 by now.
Beckeye's got a crush on Jodie!

That's a danger in being drawn to those androgenous types, innit?

Good choice. "Never Enough" and "Malaria" pop up often on my iPod, and for that I am grateful. I haven't heard this one in a while ... but I'm going to seek it out now!

Wow, I haven't heard that song in forever. VH1 Classic is such a treasure trove. I've gotten Ratt, Cinderella and Dokken (Alone Again - oh how I loved that song) in recent months.

You gotta love the hair bands.

I don't remember this song, but I wasn't much of an LA Guns fan either.

I can admit that I don't have them in my collection. It could be a lot of odd reasons. I wish this song had gotten more airplay but then again 1989 was a weird year (When In Rome, Milli Vanilli, etc.)
