Forgotten Classic Video of the Week

This week's video is a special request by Slave to the Dogs, who, apparently, likes her music videos with a heaping helping of homoerotic tension.

Feast your eyes on Clarence Clemons and Jackson Browne overstating the obvious in this video for their 1985 hit, "You're a Friend of Mine." I have a sneaking suspicion that the director must have been a close-talker.

That's Daryl Hannah on the couch and backup vocals. I hear that after the video wrapped, she was seen walking around with a welt on her arm, about the size of a cigar. That's what you get in Jackson Browne's house when you spill paint in the garage.

PS - Happy (early) Birthday, Slave! I doubt any of your other presents will be as awesome as a cheesy '80s vid.

You know Becks, there's usually a reason these things are called "forgotten" videos. :)

Like a bit of nostalgia.

For some strange reason I am drawn to Mr. Clemons....
see..this is why videos never did it for me... a decent song totally ruined by some inane set-up video...

This is brilliant! I still have this on 45.

Once, in doing research on this song (don't ask), I learned Clarence wrote it to sing with Bruce, but "Bruce didn't have time, so I thought of Jackson instead."

Some friend Bruce is!

Guv - Sshhhh. You're harshing my '80s mellow.

Darkman - I like to walk the people down that road now and then.

Historical Wit - And why not? He's the Big Man!

Bond - You loved it. Admit it.

Scott - Yeah, but Bruce has actually kissed Clarence. More than once. He's not a tease like Jackson.

I guess if he would've sung it with Bruce, they could've changed the lyrics to, "If I have time, you'll be a friend of mine."

(Or, maybe he heard how bad the song was and smartly didn't want to be associated with it.)
In Jackson Pollock's house, though, it's fine to spill paint in the garage.

What a couple of teases, though, I kept waiting and waiting and they never came through with the kiss, although you know they wanted to.

that's some heinously bad lip synching. wow.

I LOVE Clarence...but JB - not so much.
Yay, thanks Becks! I can't think of anything better than 80s camp for my birthday.

I always found this to be a bit lame, too. I guess because there was potential for more there.
Well, I'm ready for some man on man action in the context of a hit song.

They look like two gay guys having a good old time. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You know, I put that whole domestic violence incident out of my mind because I've put Jackson in that same forgotten corner as well.

I have to hand it to Daryl that she didn't show up on his door right after a day of shooting "Kill Bill" with the eye patch and samurai sword, and she just didn't go to town on his ass.

What a horrible, horrible song. I'm about to wretch ... Ugh.

That said, I may make a Clarence Clemons reference in the next post I'm thinking about ...
