Forgotten Classic Video of the Week

Recently, Gifted Typist wrote a blog entry about wanting to ban the phrase "Happy Monday." Strangely enough, during the preceding weekend, I happened to catch the Happy Mondays video for "Step On" on VH1's The Alternative, which I think is really just a recycled version of MTV's 120 Minutes.

I don't remember knowing much about this band other than this song. I had heard they had a reputation for being a bunch of drugged-out jerkoffs. I don't think they were ever as popular here as they were in the UK, but I remember this song getting quite a bit of radio and video play when it came out in 1990.

This video isn't actually the one I remember, but I can't find that one on YouTube. I don't know if this one was an alternate version or if the one I know was actually the alternative.

Becky, you are "twisting my mellon," that's not the version of the video that I remember at all. The run MTV used to run in heavy rotation was done in a studio with cheesy pseudo-psychedelic effects.
Oh, I forgot the most important tidbit, if you've ever seen the video of "Dare" by The Gorillaz? The Happy Monday's lead singer Shaun Ryder is the same guy, some one hundred and fifty pounds later.

This is a pretty catchy song. Def Leppard did a nice cover of it a year or two ago, as well. But you can totally tell that guy thinks he's too cool for school.

If I'm not wrong Happy Mondays reunited last year, I don't know what for, but this song is one of my favorites from the 90's

oops, the ugh belongs to moi. I was signed in under another blog name. Sorry to confuse.
Still hating happy Monday(s)
The Happy Mondays were pretty much single-handedly responsible for bringing down Factory Records with their massive drug bills and trips to the tropics to "record an album".

Wow, this is a bad video. Yikes.

Then again, most are.
