Answers to the Lyrics Quiz

Thanks to the 15 brave souls who participated in The Pop Eye's lyrics quiz v 2.0! You've all done Mama proud but, as with everything in life, there has to be a winner.

To those who know her, it should come as no surprise that magnificent music maven, Beth, took the top prize. She managed to score a 65 out of a possible 72...and there weren't even any R.E.M. lyrics involved! Beth, the BeckEye bobble head doll is in the mail.

Congratulations also to Angell and Dguzman, who came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Maybe you'll both get a picture of Beth holding the bobble head doll one of these days. Who knows?

I found it kind of interesting that the most commonly guessed incorrect answer was the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" instead of "Honky Tonk Women." That's kind of odd. I never really thought those two songs sounded very much alike! Do they?

Gene Pitney and Petula Clark seemed to be the biggest stumpers, while just about everyone knew Donna Summer and Journey. A lot of you obviously knew the Yaz song, but either didn't know the name of the band or thought the song was called "Move Out." It really should be called "Move Out." It makes more sense.

Finally, I'm distressed that so many people didn't know the first line of Pearl Jam's "Even Flow," a song title which, contrary to popular belief, is two words, not one. It's not about baby bottles, people! I have also vowed to give Malcolm a good, swift kick in the rear if I ever meet him for thinking that Eddie Vedder's lyrics came from Phil effing Collins. *shudder*

Congrats to the winners!! I did fine on the early stuff but then took dive....

And for some reason that Stones song does get messed up a lot.

LOL! I hope you and Malcolm don't have a run in, I'd be scared if I were him!

Hey BeckEye, give me credit for finally identifying Evenflow, lol. I look forward to your next lyrics quiz. One quick question, are you sure that Phil Collins didn't write Evenflow?

Barbara: Don't worry about me having a run-in with BeckEye. In case she decides to take a crack at me for my many offenses (calling out Travolta for being follically challenged, citing Air Supply as a guilty pleasure, etc.), I have one of my young nieces on standby to take care of my light work. :-)

Congratulations to the winners! I think noboby got "Even Flow" because Eddie Vedder always sounds like he sings with a mouthful of marbles.

On a personal note, I'm ashamed that most of the ones I got right were from before I reached the age of liking music. Who the hell is Yaz?

Thanks for a fun quiz, Beckeye :)

Damn! I did know a lot of those! I hope I can play next time. Maybe I won't have a brain fart.
Even Flow was one of the few I actually got! But, I'm not surprised Beth won. She's a walking, talking musical encyclopedia. Congrats Beth! Damn, I really kicked myself on a few of those. Should've thought a bit harder.

I did good on the 70s questions, but sucked on the rest...so I didn't "officially" participate.

Congrats to the winners!

Excellent quiz Beck...hope to do better the next time...

Malcolm - *ahem* It's possible that Phil Collins wrote "Evenflow," but Eddie Vedder wrote "Even Flow."

BeckEye: Pardon my error (me typing Evenflow instead of Even Flow). At the time I was typing my comments, I was listening to the greatness that is "No Jacket Required". As a result, my concentration was thrown off a bit.

Since you say it's possible that Phil Collins wrote "Evenflow", maybe he also penned "Rearviewmirror".

Yikes, I only knew 5 of those, but Even Flow was one of them, so that means something, right???

This is why I'm a librarian. I don't have to remember anything, just know how to find stuff out.

Congrats to the winners.

Dang...I knew I should have played this!

I knew Beth would win, but I am proud to have taken the bronze!

Oh dangit, Even Flow -- grr.

After I sent my entry in, I googled 'em all. I didn't get Love is like Oxygen, but even so--I always thought that ELO sang that song. ?

And wow, Malcolm, as if saying Phil Collins wrote Even Flow wasn't enough, you cite Air Supply as a "guilty pleasure"?

Kick his ass, Beckeye.
Malcolm said…
Dguzman: Not only is Air Supply a guilty pleasure, they are the Patron Saints of Guilty Pleasures... Ha! Oh yeah, please don't egg on BeckEye to kick my ass... she doesn't want any of this. Earlier I said that I was going to let one of my young nieces take care of my light work. I changed my mind. After I'm through with BeckEye, that's when I'll turn my niece loose.
BeckEye said…
Dguzman and Malcolm - Have you both gone mental? Have you forgotten that I LOVE Air Supply? The only reason I'd kick Malcolm's ass over that one is for feeling at all guilty about it. The Supply is made to be loved fully and completely. You need to get lost in that love, kids.
Malcolm said…
BeckEye: If you haven't already, check out the playlist of my most recent radio show. I just wanted to give you another reason to TRY and kick my ass.

WOO-HOO!!!

I'm sure my mother's so proud of my wasted brain power at this moment. What I'm most proud of is not having a clue about a Poison lyric.

Bring on the bobblehead!

I didn't try very hard to guess on the Lyrics Quiz, but I soooo knew there'd be a Squeeze and a PJ song!
