Don't Slip on the Grease, Oldsters

Ok...a double polar burger with everything and a cherry soda with chocolate ice cream is...$15.00?? What year is this??

Can you believe that Grease premiered 30 years ago today?

And, can you believe that a better movie has yet to be made?

It's interesting...knowing that this film has been around for three decades makes me feel pretty old, but watching it immediately makes me feel like a wide-eyed kid. From 5 to 35, this movie has been my most consistent source of instant joy.

Oh, Grease. You and I...we just go together. Like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong. And we always will. I can only hope to still be doing the hand jive 30 years from now.

Well, this movie is still (barely) older than me, so I feel okay.

I'm totally with you about it's awesomeness. I caught the end of Hairspray again this weekend on HBO and thought, "Man, John's just not that same as the good ol' Greese days."

I remember seeing it in Los Angeles. It was out for about a week and the a good portion of the crowd was dancing in the asiles like it was "the Rocky horror picture show".

One of my faves.

I saw Grease five times in its first two weeks. My sister and I would my mom we were going to the mall, and we'd hit one more showing. I taught all my college pals all the dances and how to hand jive.

Yep, I am one nerdy girlie.

All I know, my imitation of Travolta saying "Why don't you put out a missin' person's report?" - is dead on.

I feel the same way about Star Wars.

It was and is a great movie. Oh Sandy my darlin', you hurt me real bad, you know it's true...

It also hurt me to see the Broadway cast singing Grease is the Word last night on the Tony Awards.

You know I went something like twenty five years without seeing Grease. I have no idea why, but my kids were the ones who got me to watch it instead of the other way around.

So whatever happened to that guy from Taxi?

Kinicki is in rehab...or I think he was. Anyway, Grease is the Word!!! I'm extra nerdy, I also love Grease II. My aunt Kim and I won a game of Taboo with "She wants a cool rider!"

BeckEye, do you recall a character in Grease called Patty Simcox. She was a goodie two shoes, bossy boots sort of gal.She became an icon in my warped household, because we always went for the unlikely ones.

But I need to know. Patty. Was she from Grease.

Red - There was no need for that diss of my love. He's still the man. And I loved Hairspray.

Mike - If they had something like that here where you act it out as the movie plays, I would totally do that. I could be any character.

Beth - How is that nerdy? That's NORMAL!

Dr. Zibbs - Well that's cool baby. Rockin' and rollin' and what not.

Evil-E - Okay, now that's nerdy. :)

Dale - "Sandy" is my favorite song from the movie.

Chancelucky - Good thing you have smart kids.

Kristi - Yeah, Kenickie was on Celebrity Rehab but he checked out early. Something about how he had a back injury and he HAD to take medication for his back, so he thought it was unfair to be in rehab around other people while he was taking pills. I think you need to stop taking pills too. You must be if you seriously like Grease 2. ;)

GT - Ummmm, yes! Patty Simcox! The bad seed of Rydell...HI!
Wow. It's moments like this that I know our love can never be, because this movie eats it like me at a buffet.

WOW. Yeah, I'm feeling old with you. The "Grease" soundtrack was the very first piece of music I purchased for myself. I was 7, and I must have listened to it a gazillion times. The movie pretty much changed me, it sparked my music junkie-ism!

I'm such a 70s kid. I saw "Grease" when it first came out at a DRIVE-IN. Just get me my walker now.
This may very well get me banned from the little love fest that you host over here, but that is one movie that I have absolutely no desire to ever see.

And yet, I still like you!

I love Grease too. And it looks like someone needs to beat Pistols' ass.

When this movie eventually made it to the West Point PX movie theater, all showings were sold out for weeks. On opening night me and my gang of misfit skater friends snuck into the the first showing and heckled the utter lamness of this flick until the MP's were called in to remove us physically from the theater.

I've never had more fun in all my life.

Sounds like Pistols would have joined in on our fun that night.

A remarkably shitty movie and soundtrack.

You're lucky you've got your previous H.O.T.S. reference to cover this abomination.

I think owning a vagina is a requisite to liking this sad film...

How right you are! I remember when the movie came out that I saw it several times in the theater. When I see it today I still get the same rush of joy at the end--I love happy endings!
@Tony - I don't own my vagina but I do have a very long lease. I loved Grease!!!

I wanted to be Sandra D so bad when I was a kid and I always thought Sandy in black was too slutty...and how can you not love the ridiculous ending?

Your niece is following in your footsteps....she watches it all the time. Who's kid is she anyway?

Regarding Patti Simcox, John still walks around saying "Let's hear it for the toilet paper". Sad and funny at the same time.
