Today is a very special day. Not because of the free nacho-and-$3 margarita happy hours happening all over the land. (Although that is mighty nice.) No, today is special because it is the birthday of two of my favorite peeps - my Dad and the BFF. Therefore, I'm making today a Two-fer Tuesday. (As it turns out, both of these songs/videos are from 1984, but that year has no special significance.)
This first vid is for my Dad. Last year, for his 80th, I dedicated Guns N' Roses' "Patience" (one of the few "rock 'n' roll rubbish" songs he actually likes) to him. This year's video dedication is not one of his favorites, but it's a song that reminds me of him because I liked it and he used to always make fun of it. (No matter that he only knew the first two lines.) This is The Thompson Twins' "Hold Me Now." (True, this is probably their biggest hit, so it isn't really "forgotten," but I get to bend the rules a little bit today.)
As for my BFF, since she already burned her Wham! request ("I'm Your Man," posted in April of last year), I get to embarrass her by revealing her love for the completely ridiculous John Parr song, "Naughty Naughty." Yeah, yeah, it's catchy and all but, seriously, couldn't KISS or any number of hair bands have done this better? Did we really need John Parr? For anything? Man, he wanted to be a combination of Bruce Springsteen and Mad Max in the worst way, but he just came across as Michael Bolton's roadie.
Here's an interesting tidbit though - check out the chick in the car at the beginning of this vid. It's Lisa Rinna...and her lips look about 20 pounds lighter than they do now.

And it's super cool that your dad likes a Guns N' Roses song. My mom can do the Axl dance.
