...And Another Piece of My Childhood Is Gone

Just heard the news that Corey Haim died this morning. Apparently, he accidentally overdosed on prescription meds. Sadly, this isn't that surprising but it's still jarring. Corey was only a year older than me, so we kind of "grew up together." I wasn't a rabid fan of his or anything, but I loved Lucas, The Lost Boys and License to Drive. He was certainly the best Corey.

Unlike Feldman, that horrible famewhore I've never liked, I've always felt really bad for Corey. He clearly had problems that he didn't want to address. On The Two Coreys, he admitted that he was molested as a kid but later claimed that he had "moved on" from that and didn't want to talk about it anymore. It seems like he didn't want to acknowledge his drug problems either, as he was reportedly "insulted" when approached to be on this season of Celebrity Rehab, an offer he turned down.

I don't think Celebrity Rehab could have helped Corey, because I don't think it helps anyone do anything except keep themselves in the spotlight, which is what they're really addicted to. And Corey had apparently been doing much better over the last several years, working with an addiction specialist and acting more. But it may have been a case of too little, too late. Whatever the cause of death turns out to be, it's just a shame that he had to go so young.

R.I.P., Haimster.

The police are saying that he wasn't feeling well these last few weeks and had several prescription bottles in his condo, but there were no "illicit" drugs.

Shades of Brittany Murphy perhaps?

Back in the day I was obsessed with Haim, my walls were covered with posters ripped out of Tiger Beat. I was not surprised but this, but I agree it was very jarring.

I always thought he was one of the more talented actors of his generation, and just got caught up in a lot of wrong choices. It's a shame he couldn't have survived them.
I don't really know his films, but it's always a shame to see another one go so young.

I loved License to Drive, The Lost Boys, and that weird little thing where he hung his tongue half out of his mouth. I'm so sad today. All my childhood faves are dropping like flies!

38 or 39 is young.

I feel slightly bad for my post today, but not really.

Lucas. An actor could do a lot worse than have only that movie to show for a career. That damn things still gets me a little weepy. Especially Winona, the ugly duckling so ugly even ubernerd Lucas thinks he's too good for her. How awful to be the one rejected by a chronic rejectee.

Lullaby, Hollywood. You chew 'em up and spit 'em out, and they keep beggin' you to let 'em in.
Yeah, this one stung. I loved my Lucas.

I KNOW!! WTF??
I was in love with the Coreys.

Poor Feldman. He's probably all eff'ed up now. The Coreys were like best friends forever.

RIP
